Quinstruction is owned and operated by trade-qualified carpenter Andrew Quinn.
Andrew grew up and started his building career in Hamilton before moving to Wanaka, where he worked on large, high-end architectural homes.
After traveling and working overseas for a few years, Andrew spent 15 years working as a site manager and project manager in the Auckland branch of one of New Zealand’s largest commercial interior fit-out companies.
Leading multimillion-dollar contracts, Andrew managed dozens of workers and sub-contractors to deliver projects on time and on budget, with a strong focus on health and safety.
After deciding it was time for a change, Andrew took some time off to work on his own property. When friends and neighbors learned that Andrew was available, requests started to pour in, and Quinstruction was born.
Our mindset is ‘do it once and do it right’. We understand that builders come and go, but you, the homeowner, are left with the results for years to come. We take pride in our work and treat every job like it’s our own home.
We can help with a wide range of repairs, renovations, and building projects, including:
We can handle most smaller renovations in-house. For larger renovations, Andrew will project manage sub-contractors to get the job done, tightly managing the process throughout.
Andrew’s wife Tracey has a design background and can help with colors, materials, and finishes if needed.

Andrew jumped in to help with a renovation after our house flooded. He meticulously designed our new wooden flooring so the pattern remained random throughout the whole house - no small feat given the strange layout in our home! He also tucked the flooring neatly under all the skirting, windows and doors, going above and beyond what a builder would normally do to make it look tidy. His attention to detail is unsurpassed. He also helped us redesign our TV room and put the cables behind the walls. Throughout the build, he was polite, helpful and full of good ideas. He's obviously excellent at planning and project management, helping us get the right tradies in at the right times to keep our project running smoothly. He was a pleasure to have around and we wouldn't hesitate to get him back for our next project. He also provided a very reasonable quote.
I had the pleasure of employing Quinstruction to renovate two properties and Andrew produced exceptionally high-quality work. The biggest benefit, was his varied skillset. The first dwelling had major water damage caused by a leaking hot water cylinder. Andrew did work outside his building skillset, including gib stopping to a high standard and painting. The logistics organising other trades is difficult so this versatility meant there was no hold up in the work progress. On the second property, he engaged the services of an engineer, as structural issues had to be addressed. Due to the scale of the gib stopping and painting involved, he got quotes for me to appraise before accepting. This was so beneficial as the time involved is daunting when you are juggling work commitments. He was realistic about how to transform an old bungalow to refit a new kitchen. It had to look plum and aesthetically pleasing, without the need to relevel the whole house which is unrealistic considering our budget. He assisted with fitting kitchen waste water pipes, ensuring the work wasn’t held up waiting for a plumber. This property also required attaching a carport to an existing garage, which he undertook with the added construction of a small retaining wall. He re-roofed the garage at the same time. These small construction requests were all designed by Andrew, within the building codes.
If you are looking for a professional and trustworthy builder look no further! Andrew turned up when he said he would, did a great job and was a pleasant guy to have working in our home. We felt he applied the same standard he would have for his own home and we’ll be getting him back for our next project.
